4EA: Medical-Surgical Unit
4EA (Medical Maximum Care) is a 32 bed medical-surgical unit. This unit provides care to patients who are admitted for a variety of acute and chronic medical illnesses. 4EA specializes in taking care of renal patients. It is also step-down ventilator unit that collaborates with respiratory to provide patients with continued care that they need before they can discharge.
4EC: Medical-Surgical Unit
4EC is a 32 bed medical-surgical unit. Patients are admitted to 4EC with a variety of medical illnesses under the care of our hospitalist physician program. This unit is also a step-down stroke unit for patients needing continued care before discharge.
3EA: Surgical Unit
3EA is a 24 bed surgical unit specializing in the care of patients who have undergone total joint replacement surgery, fractures that may or may not need surgical intervention, spine, urology, and outpatient gynecological surgeries. This unit includes the Total Joint Replacement Center. 3EA is dedicated to providing comprehensive education to ensure the best possible recovery at home.
3EB: Medical Rehabilitation
3EB Medical Rehab is a 15 bed inpatient Rehabilitation Facility for qualifying patients who are able to participate in therapy 3 hours a day. The unit goal is to help patients who have suffered a physical loss of function from an illness or injury return to their highest level of independence.
3EC1: Surgical Care
3EC1 is a 17 bed surgical care unit specializing in the care of patients after general surgery. Providing excellent patient care with a focus on quality education is a priority so post-operative patients are prepared for their next phase of recovery at home is a priority.
3EC2: Medical Oncology
3EC2 is a 15 bed medical oncology unit focusing on the care of cancer patients undergoing treatment or experiencing diagnosis related concerns. The inter-professional care team is patient and family focused in the approach to cancer care and also supports planning end of life care as part of a holistic approach.
2EB: Stroke Care, Open-Heart Transition, Diabetes
2EB is a 20 bed unit that is part of the Union Hospital Certified Primary Stroke Center. This unit focuses on the care of patients experiencing stroke, or symptoms of stroke. Nurses on this unit also focuses on the transition to home for open-heart patients, and the management of diabetes.
Critical Care
Critical Care is a 24 bed unit with state-of-the art monitoring equipment and specialty trained staff. Critical Care focuses on the care of the critically ill patient ranging from injuries through trauma, to life-threatening problems. The unit also has a focus on open-heart surgery patients, those requiring post-operative intensive monitoring and those with complex medical conditions.
Surgical Services
The Department of Surgical Services includes 12 OR suites, 2 Endoscopy suites, 38 Pre-op bays, and 12 Post Anesthesia Recovery bays providing inpatient and same day outpatient surgical services. Each phase of the surgical process builds a trusting relationship to ensure all patients receive high quality patient centered care. The Surgical Services Department is a Certified level 3 Trauma Center. Surgical service lines include Cardiovascular, Neuro, General, GI, Ortho, ENT, GYN, and Urology.
Emergency
The Emergency Department at Union Hospital offers emergency services 24 hours a day, seven days a week to all ages of patients. The department is responsible for providing emergency care for a variety of common illness and injuries in addition to providing immediate treatment and lifesaving procedures in all types of emergency situations. The emergency department serves as the initial access point for our Certified Primary Stroke Center, Accredited Chest Pain center with PCI, and Verified Level III Trauma Center.
IV Therapy
The IV Therapy Department provides outpatient infusion services as well as administering blood transfusions and performing therapeutic phlebotomy. The department is open 7 days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and sees an average of 22 patients a day.
Pre-Post Cardiac Catheterization
The Pre-Post Cardiac Catheterization Unit has 35 beds and specializes in the care of patients having procedures such as Coronary Angioplasty, Pacemaker Insertion, AICD Insertion, and Trans-Esophageal Echocardiogram (TEE). The unit is also an outpatient observation unit for chest pain or possible stroke awaiting final diagnosis.
Women & Infants
Newborn Intensive Care
The Newborn Intensive Care Unit is a 15 bed unit specialized in the care of 24 week gestation neonates and above. Staff provide a family centered care environment which focuses on incorporating parents in the care of their baby and education throughout their hospitalization. All N.I.C.U. nurses are NRP certified and S.T.A.B.L.E. certified. The N.I.C.U. is staffed 24/7 with a neonatologist in house and respiratory therapy. This exceptional unit is the Wabash Valley's only Level III N.I.C.U.
Labor & Delivery
The Labor and Delivery Unit consists of a 9 bay OB emergency room that is staffed 24 hours a day with an OB hospitalist physician, 8 LDR rooms, 2 OR suites and a 2 bay recovery area. Women of childbearing age who are 20 weeks or greater in gestation with routine or high risk obstetrical problems and those undergoing Cesarean sections are evaluated and/or treated on this unit. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Nursing practice is guided by the AWHONN standards of care. The Labor and Delivery Unit is dedicated to providing compassionate healthcare of the highest quality for a family-centered birth experience within a safe environment.
Mother-Baby
The 30 bed Mother-Baby Unit, on the 3rd floor of Union West, is dedicated to providing family centered care. New mothers enjoy couplet-care with the same nurse caring for both mon and baby. Families benefit from rooming-in and have an exceptional program to support breastfeeding with certified lactation specialists. Safe Sleep is a hallmark of the Mother-Baby Unit
Pediatrics
3WD Pediatrics is a 15 bed general pediatric unit. Patients and their families are cared for in a family centered care environment where everyone is welcome to participate in the care of the patient. All nursing staff are PALS certified and promote a team work environment.
Resource Center
The Resource Center is a department of Registered Nurses, Patient Care Interns, Patient Care Technicians, Unit Secretaries, and Patient Care Sitters. Resource Center members provide acute care to adult and older adult patients on Telemetry, Medical, and Surgical units. The purpose of the Resource Center is to supplement staffing and provide coverage for unanticipated events. The Resource Center team has the opportunity to learn many different specialties of care.
