Biography

Dr. Robert Malinzak brings more than 25 years of practice experience to Indiana Joint Replacement Institute in adult hip and knee reconstruction. He is board-certified orthopedic surgeon by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has been recognized among the “Top Doctors of Indiana” since 2015.  He is a total joint outcomes leader and has completed more than 7,000 total hip and knee replacements.

Dr. Malinzak was born and raised in North Carolina and graduated from Davidson College in North Carolina with a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, while playing varsity soccer as a division 1 starter. He completed his medical degree and Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Duke University School of Medicine. He was also a Hip, Knee & Ankle Arthroscopy Visiting Observer at Southern California Orthopaedic Institute. He completed his Joint Reconstruction & Sports Medicine Fellowship at Center for Hip and Knee Surgery in Mooresville, Indiana and was one of the four total joint surgeons selected by the Knee Society John N. Insall Traveling Knee Fellowship where they visited 13 sites in the USA and Canada within five weeks.

To date, Dr. Malinzak has been published, or presented, more than 55 times with topics such as “Mechanisms of ACL Injuries,” “Electromyographic and 3-Dimensional Kinematic Analysis of Cutting Maneuvers in Men and Women,” “Stress Fractures,” “A Comparison of Knee Joint Motion Patterns between Men and Women in Selected Athletic Tasks,” and “Total Joint Replacement Risk Factors and Rates.”

Dr. Malinzak has maintained several appointments and professional memberships that include a member of the American Association of Hip & Knee Surgeons, a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, an Orthopaedic Practice and Journal of Arthroplasty reviewer, an Oxford Unicompartmental Arthroplasty Instructor, European Hip Society, British Hip society, The American Medical Association, Piedmont Orthopaedic Society, Indianapolis Medical Society, Indiana State Medical Association, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, Indiana Orthopaedic Society, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Insall Club, European Hip Society, Arthroscopy Association of North America, Duke Arthroplasty Club and remains active with Rose-Hulman Biomechanics Laboratory.

Dr. Malinzak has also supported his communities through memberships and leadership positions with several service organizations that include The Arthritis Foundation, ISMA 7th district IMS President and Trustee, Indianapolis Humane Society, About Special Kids and the Chris Center—A Place for Paws. And participated in various fundraising events like the Team for Kids New York Marathon, Make-A-Wish Chicago Marathon, Equine Dreams Chicago Marathon, Boston Marathon, Niños con Valor. Cochabamba Bolivia. University High School and the Heather Abbott Foundation.
