Dry Needling

Dry needling is a technique used by Anish Paulose, Physical Therapist, and Site Coordinator at Union Hospital Therapy to reduce pain and restore mobility in order to optimize function. A thin filiform needle (without medication) is used to stimulate tissues that are no longer functioning properly. Our physical therapists look for a change in stability and/or mobility to the targeted area when treating patients. Dry Needling is another tool health care providers can use (as part of the treatment within physical therapy) to reduce pain and improve movement.
The number of treatments required per patient varies depending on the severity and length of time the patient has lived with pain or movement dysfunction. Patients are routinely asked to incorporate various exercises with dry needling treatments to help maximize effectiveness.
Dry needling is available on a referral basis through Union Hospital Therapy. Physicians will need to provide a signed prescription for physical therapy with the addition of “dry needling” as indicated. To schedule an appointment with a Union Hospital Physical Therapist, fax your order to 812.303.0266.

Healthier, together.
